Introduction to Tanzania's Premier Safari Destinations
Nyerere National Park: A Pristine Wilderness
Nyerere National Park, formerly part of the Selous Game Reserve, is one of Tanzania’s hidden gems. This vast park is renowned for its undisturbed wildlife and enchanting riverine landscapes.
As you traverse through its territories, you are likely to encounter elephants, wild dogs, and a variety of bird species, all thriving in their natural habitats (Wikipedia) (Africa Geographic Travel) (ConservationWire).
Ruaha National Park: Land of Diversity
Ruaha National Park is Tanzania's largest national park, known for its rugged landscapes and rich biodiversity.
It is particularly famous for its large populations of elephants and a diverse range of other wildlife, including lions, cheetahs, leopards, and over 570 bird species.
Ruaha's remote location adds to its charm, offering a more exclusive and less crowded safari experience.
The park's dramatic scenery, combined with the Great Ruaha River, provides spectacular game viewing and photographic opportunities (Wikipedia) (National Parks).
Planning Our Photographic Safari
Best Times to Visit
The ideal time for a photographic safari in Nyerere and Ruaha National Parks is during the dry season, from June to October. During these months, vegetation is sparse, and animals congregate around water sources, making them easier to spot and photograph. This is why we are doing it in June. Still low season, lower cost and less people around.
